Tips for a Healthy You

Measuring our happiness by what we own or have accomplished makes for a very sad living. We will naturally always want more. As Margaret Lee Runbeck said, “Happiness is not a state to arrive at, but a manner of traveling.”

Profile

Human behavior has always be a fascination of Martha Gonzalez-Michaelis.  A Columbian native, Martha is a highly-regarded professional counselor in North Texas.  Specializing in cognitive behavioral therapy, Martha uses a unique approach to help patients achieve a new outlook on life.

Having attended Nebraska Wesleyan University for undergraduate studies, Martha completed her graduate work at Oklahoma State University in 2000 with a Master of Science in Community Counseling.  Since she graduated until Spring 2009, Martha practiced in the state of Texas. Today, she is a licensed professional counselor in the State of Arkansas and operates a private practice in Rogers, Arkansas.

Patients and Approach

Martha works with people of all ages, but specializes in the treatment of adults and groups.  When treating children and adolescents, parents play an integral part in the therapy program.

The approach used in each treatment is simple.  By helping each patient understand that life is a constant change, each individual will acquire the skills needed to overcome each personal challenge.

Using a two-stage approach, Martha helps patients make progress with the concept that movement leads to a positive outcome.  The first stage is based on Morita Therapy where individuals learn to accept feelings as they are.  The second stage is based on Cognitive Behavioral Therapy where patients learn to understand themselves in a consistent manner and changing irrational beliefs.

By understanding the circumstances that affect each individual, applying knowledge about human behavior and respecting the uniqueness to the individual, Martha helps patients every day learn how feelings can create a drain on our lives. Helping you move past your challenges and into a new you is what results from her two-stage approach.
